First of all in the state, smart meters with WiFi and 4G dual SIM are being installed in Kanpur, so that bills can be paid despite network problems. These new meters will also help in preventing electricity theft and solving the connectivity problems of consumers.

On the instructions of the Uttar Pradesh government, meters with WiFi connect technology are to be installed in the entire state. These meters have been installed first in the city under a pilot project. It will have two SIM cards of 4G network. If you are unable to pay the bill from your mobile due to internet problem, then you will be able to recharge by clicking the WiFi button on the meter and connecting it to your mobile.

This arrangement is being made in view of the problem of not getting recharged when the balance is over. This will eliminate problems like not getting alert messages, delay in sending data to the server, connection and disconnection. Under the pilot project, 24 thousand smart meters of new technology will be installed in Kanpur. The responsibility of installing these meters has been given to Genus Company and the company has to complete the entire work in one and a quarter years.

The smart meter will always remain in the network

Initially, the work of installing these meters has been started in Civil Lines and Mall Road. The smart meters of this new technology have space for two SIM cards of 4G network. SIM cards of Jio and Airtel are installed in them. The speciality of these SIM cards is that if the network is weak in one SIM, then the other SIM will auto-switch automatically and will provide strong network to the other one. With this process the smart meter will always remain in the network and will keep sending the data of electricity consumed to the server.

Problems like not receiving balance alert message:

The consumer can check it every 10 to 15 minutes through Kesco’s website or app. At present, the 1.5 lakh smart meters installed in Bijlighar, Aalumandi, Nawabganj and Jarib Chowki division areas with high line loss in the city in the last three years have Vodafone SIMs of 2G network. The problem of not receiving balance alert message, auto connect as well as disconnect keeps coming up.

There will be no electricity theft, it is connected to Kesco’s website

The new technology smart meters are currently connected to Kesco’s website and app. In such a situation, if anyone tries to steal electricity through any means in these meters, then its report will automatically reach the website and app. In this way, it will not be possible to steal electricity with the new technology smart meter.

24 thousand smart meters of new technology are being installed in the city. Connectivity will be better with the facility of hotspot-wifi, double sim slot and auto switch. Currently these are postpaid which will be converted to prepaid from the server. In the next one and a quarter year, Kesco will install these smart meters in place of postpaid meters in the premises of about seven and a half lakh consumers across the city
