The hilly state of Uttarakhand is facing the brunt of bad weather these days. Nature’s fury continues on Devbhoomi. The India Meteorological Department, Dehradun has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rains in many districts of the state for August 12, 2025 (Tuesday).
According to the Meteorological Department, there is an orange alert in Garhwal division, red alert in Nainital district, while heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Rudraprayag. The department has expressed the possibility of landslides in sensitive areas along with strong water flow in rivers, drains and streams.
According to the Meteorological Department, there may be heavy rain with thunder and lightning at some places in Garhwal district. Due to this, there is a danger of increase in the water level of rivers and streams. Keeping in view the safety of the students, holiday has been declared on Tuesday in all the government, semi-government, private schools (class 1 to 12) and Anganwadi centers of the district.
Schools and Anganwadi centres closed
Schools and Anganwadis closed in Uttarakhand due to heavy rains: There is a possibility of very heavy rains with strong thunder and lightning at some places in Nainital district. Currently, rain continues in the mountainous and plain areas of the district. In view of the situation, the district administration has ordered all government, semi-government, private schools and Anganwadi centers to remain closed on Tuesday. The Chief Education Officer and District Program Officer have been instructed to comply with the orders.
The weather department has also forecast heavy to very heavy rains for Rudraprayag district. Under Section 30(2) of the Disaster Management Act 2005, the district administration has declared a day’s holiday on Tuesday in all government, non-government and private schools (classes 1 to 12) and Anganwadi centres in the district. According to the order, the principals, headmasters, teachers and other staff of the schools will remain present in their respective schools/offices.
Kedarnath Yatra suspended
The pilgrimage to Uttarakhand’s famous Kedarnath Dham has been permanently closed for three days. Regarding this, Rudraprayag District Officer said that in view of the warning of heavy rains in Uttarakhand, the Kedarnath Dham Yatra has been temporarily suspended from 12 to 14 August. This decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety of the pilgrims.
Schools and Anganwadis closed in Uttarakhand due to heavy rains: The administration has appealed to the travelers to keep an eye on weather updates and take proper precautions for travel. Heavy rains may cause landslides and other risks in hilly areas.
