RBI had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 notes on May 19, 2023. The total value of these notes on that day was Rs 3.56 lakh crore. Now it has come down to Rs 6,017 crore, that is, about 98.31% of the notes have been returned.

The RBI has clarified that Rs 2,000 notes are still valid currency. That is, they can be used for transactions, although it has become common for banks and shopkeepers to refuse to accept them.

People who cannot visit the RBI office can send their Rs 2,000 notes through India Post to any RBI issuing office in the country and get them deposited in the account.

You can exchange notes by visiting these 19 issuing offices of RBI. This facility is available in RBI branches in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Belapur, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna and Thiruvananthapuram.
