Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) is a major government initiative that was launched in February 2016 for crop protection of farmers. If you are a farmer and are looking for a good insurance to protect your crop, then definitely apply for PMFBY.

Note that it is necessary to link PMFBY with Aadhaar. According to Financial Express, banks and insurance companies have clarified that without Aadhaar e-KYC verification on the PMFBY portal, crop insurance will be considered invalid, even if the premium has been paid. Therefore, farmers must ensure that all the required documents, especially Aadhaar, are updated and verified by July 31.

Farmers will not get benefits if Aadhaar is not linked

Farmers are not able to get benefits if Aadhaar is not linked. Therefore, the government is urging farmers to link their Aadhaar as soon as possible so that they can take advantage of this crop insurance scheme. The last date for getting insurance for Kharif crops is 31st July.

Who can apply for PMFBY and what documents will be required

Must be a permanent resident of India, landowner, tenant or partner farmer, without receiving compensation for the same crop from any other source. Documents required: Aadhaar Card, bank account passbook, farm ownership proof (B-1 form or Patwari verified document), crop sowing certificate/registration, mobile number and Aadhaar link information.

Online process to link PMFBY with Aadhaar

Step 1: For online Aadhaar linking, visit pmfby.gov.in. Login and click on “Farmer Corner” → Aadhaar update or apply link.

Step 2:

Verify through Aadhaar number and OTP. If the name/date of birth is wrong, get it corrected with the help of UIDAI. Submit and get acknowledgment.

How to apply online for PMFBY

Step 1:

Visit the official portal pmfby.gov.in. Select “Farmer Corner” → “Apply for Crop Insurance by Yourself”. Register as Guest Farmer or login.

Step 2:

Enter Aadhaar number, bank account, crop and area details. Upload documents like Aadhaar, bank passbook, land documents. Submit application and get acknowledgment. Track application status from “Application Status”.
