Recently, PM Modi visited Tamil Nadu. During that time in Gangaikondacholapuram, PM released a Rs 1,000 coin to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the naval expedition of King Rajendra Chola-I.
The coin has been designed by R Comagan, chairman of Gangaikondacholapuram Development Council Trust. Transport Minister SS Sivasankar, Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu and VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan were present at the event.

R Comagan had prepared the design of the coin and sent it to the Central Government. The proposal was accepted from there. The emperor riding a horse is engraved on the back side of the coin. Also, a ship in the water is printed in the background. The coin was issued after the Central Government accepted the proposal.
