Indian Railways has changed the rules for carrying luggage in trains. Railways has said that the limit of carrying luggage is different for passengers traveling in each class.

Different limits have been set for carrying luggage from general bogie to AC first class. Railways has said that if passengers of each class carry luggage more than the limit set for them, then they will be fined.

Railways has said that different limits have been imposed for passengers travelling in general bogies, sleeper and AC bogies. However, Railways has also given some relaxations over and above the limit of carrying luggage. This additional relaxation is different for each class of bogie. If a passenger carries more luggage than the prescribed limit, he will be fined per kilogram.

What is the limit in general bogie?

If you are travelling in general bogie of the train, then the railway has set a limit of 35 kg for this. This means that a passenger can travel with a weight of up to 35 kg with his ticket. In this class, the railway also gives an additional discount of 10 kg. In this sense, a passenger is allowed to carry a weight of up to 45 kg. If the luggage is more than this, the railway can impose a fine of Rs 10 to Rs 50 per kg.

What is the limit in Sleeper and Third AC?

Railways have kept the limit of carrying luggage same for Sleeper and Third AC classes. Passengers travelling in both the classes are allowed to carry up to 40 kg of weight. Apart from this, Railways also allows carrying additional weight up to 10 kg. In this way, passengers travelling in Sleeper and Third AC can carry up to 50 kg of weight with them. A fine can be imposed for carrying more weight than this.

What is the limit in Second and First AC?

Railways has fixed the limit for carrying luggage in Second and First AC classes as well. In Second AC, one can travel with up to 50 kg of luggage. Apart from this, per passenger is also allowed to carry 10 kg extra luggage. In this way, every passenger can carry more than 60 kg of weight in Second AC. Similarly, in First AC also Railways has fixed the weight limit of 70 kg per passenger. Apart from this, per passenger is allowed to carry additional weight of up to 15 kg. In this way, up to 85 kg of weight can be carried per passenger.
