NEET, MBBS Admission: A hearing was held in Patna High Court regarding the fees of private medical colleges in Bihar. In which the government’s decision has been stayed in which the government has given 50 percent seats in private medical colleges to government colleges…
MBBS Admission: What is the whole matter?
The bench of Patna High Court judge Anil Kumar Sinha gave this decision on the petition of many private colleges including Lord Buddha Koshi Medical College, Saharsa. The government had issued a letter on 29 July 2025 saying that private colleges should charge only government fees for their 50% seats, but the college owners say that this will worsen their condition and they may be forced to increase the fees of the remaining students by Rs 1.5 to 2 crore.
Medical colleges: What is the complaint about the colleges?
The college people argue that this decision will hurt their financial condition. Every private medical college has to spend about 100 crore rupees annually on staff, teachers, machines and other facilities. If government fees are imposed, there will be huge losses and the jobs of many employees may also be in danger. They say that medical education should be for service and not for profit, but this rule is against that thinking. Moreover, due to the increase in fees, common students will be driven away from medical studies.
Patna high court verdict: What did the court say?
The High Court has put a break on this order of the government for now. Also, the Bihar government and the National Medical Commission have been asked to respond within 6 weeks. The next hearing will be held at that time. This step of the court has brought relief to private colleges, but now the government will have to clarify its stand. In such a situation, this matter is still in suspense. If the government gives strong arguments, then private colleges may have to control the fees. Otherwise, the problems of both students and colleges will continue.
