Just after completing his schooling, Jim Beaver joined the United States Marine Corps and served in Vietnam as a radio operator and communications supply specialist with the 1st Marine Division.
Later, while pursuing his graduation, he made his professional stage debut in 1972 in a production of Rain. Till the 80s, he worked in regional cinema to polish his acting skills.
