Now, neither thumb identification nor OTP will be required for going to the post office for banking… India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) has launched Aadhaar based face authentication service across the country, through which now customers will be able to open account, check balance, send money and pay bills just by using their face.
Who will benefit the most?
This service will be especially useful for those who have been facing technical problems related to thumb recognition or OTP system till now. This technology will make banking very easy for the elderly, disabled people, and citizens living in remote rural areas.
What is special about the technology?
The face authentication system has been developed on the standards of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). This initiative strengthens the Digital India campaign as well as creates a system that is completely contactless and secure.
In how many post offices will this facility be available?
According to IPPB, this service will soon be made available to customers through 1.6 lakh post offices and more than 3 lakh postal workers across the country. This step is a major change towards deepening financial inclusion under the ‘Aapka Bank, Aapke Dwar’ mission.
Why is this necessary in a situation like a pandemic?
In case of a pandemic or any health emergency when it becomes necessary to avoid physical contact, this face authentication technology will prove to be very useful. This will not only make transactions faster and easier, but will also make banking services more accessible and secure for everyone.
