Truecaller

New Delhi: Truecaller has announced that its popular call recording feature will not work on iPhones from September 30, 2025.

This decision has been taken after Apple introduced its call recording capabilities in the new iOS version, which has made Truecaller’s call recording facility useless. Due to this new update, Truecaller will now focus on improving its core features such as live caller ID and automatic spam call blocking. Let us tell you that Truecaller’s call recording facility was also a bit expensive.

Why was call recording expensive on iOS?

Truecaller’s call recording feature on iPhone was quite different from Android devices, mainly due to the limitations of Apple’s iOS platform. Unlike Android, which allows for direct integration with call functionality, Truecaller’s approach was more complicated on iPhone.

This typically required users to merge an ongoing call with Truecaller’s recording line, which was a workaround to overcome iOS’s limitations. While it provided the required functionality, this complex implementation resulted in high operating costs for Truecaller, which was expensive compared to the simpler recording methods available on other mobile operating systems.

Now that native call recording is available, it makes no sense for Truecaller to maintain its expensive solution.

How to save your recordings

Truecaller has advised all iPhone users who are using the call recording feature to back up their existing recordings before the September 30 deadline as all data will be permanently deleted after that. Users can save their important conversations by following these steps:

  • – Open the Truecaller app on your iPhone.
  • – Go to the “Recordings” tab. –
  • Tap on the “Settings” icon.
  • – Select “Storage Preferences” and change it to “iCloud Storage”.
  • – If the iCloud storage option appears disabled, you will have to enable it manually. For this, go to your iPhone’s Settings > Your Name > iCloud > Saved to iCloud > Turn on Truecaller.
  • – To download a specific recording, go back to the “Recordings” tab and swipe left on the recording you want to save.
  • – Tap the “Share or Export” option, and the app will give you options to save the recording, such as local storage or other cloud services.
