Indian travellers have some news to check for 2026. Specifically, our passport is now in 75th place on a big global list. Because of this, India is 10 spots higher than last year. However, the number of free-visa spots has gone down. Currently, you can visit 56 countries without a paper visa. Last year, that number was 57.
Why is the Rank Higher?
It seems odd that a rank goes up when points go down. However, the list compares all nations at once. Specifically, other countries lost even more points than India did. Therefore, our rank moved up anyway. Actually, this is the best rank for India in many years.
Two Places End Free Entry
Two popular spots recently changed their rules for us. Specifically, Iran and Bolivia are no longer on the free list. As a result, you must ask for a visa before you fly there.
-
Iran: They stopped free entry in late 2025. Sadly, there were cases of job scams and theft.
-
Bolivia: They now ask for a digital visa first. Since you need this paper, the list no longer calls it free.
A New Spot: The Gambia
While we lost two spots, we gained a new one this month. Specifically, The Gambia was added to the list. This move helped the count go from 55 in January to 56 today. Consequently, this small nation in Africa is a new pick for us.![]()
