Indian Post: India Post i.e. Indian Postal Department is now becoming modern. The Postal Department has decided to integrate Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in post offices across the country.

With this, you will now be able to make digital payment while booking speed post, so that no post office will refuse to accept digital payment. Along with this, the department has also made major changes in its IT system to further improve its services.

Agreement with airlines for postal bags

The postal department is taking another big step to strengthen its mail transmission system. According to a report in The Hindu, the postal department has expressed its intention to ask airlines to reserve space for mail bags in the cargo hold of passenger flights. For this, the postal department has issued a tender on July 17 inviting airlines to bid for a ‘hard block’ contract. This will make the delivery of mail across India faster and efficient.

Customers will get better facilities with the new ‘Advanced Postal Technology’

Post offices are upgrading their IT systems in a phased manner. Under this new Advanced Postal Technology (APT) system, not only will UPI payments be accepted, but the tracking facility has also been improved. Now you will also be able to know which post office your package or letter is going to next. This system has been started in metro cities like Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai, and more than 86,000 post offices have been upgraded so far. According to the Ministry of Communications, this new system will provide features like faster service, customer-friendly interface and OTP-based authentication for delivery.

There will be more changes in the coming days

Minister of State for Communications Chandra Shekhar Pemmasani recently reviewed the upgradation works. He said the APT system will provide facilities like real-time tracking, customized services for bulk customers and electronic proof of delivery. Apart from this, the department is also working on the ‘DIGIPIN’ initiative, which will facilitate more accurate latitude-longitude data in PIN codes. Postal department officials also said they are working on an e-mail-like system that will allow letters to be easily redirected even if the address changes.
