The Indian Postal Department has now announced to end its more than 50 years old prestigious service (India says goodbye to respected postal tradition).

The Indian Postal Department has issued an order to merge this service with its expensive Speed Post service. This means that now double the tax will have to be paid on every parcel or paper. For example, till now a 20 gram parcel which used to be registered for about Rs. 26-27, will have to be sent by Speed Post at Rs. 41, which is about 75% more.
According to a letter sent by the Deputy Director General (Mail) of the Postal Department, Dushyant Mudgil, to all the postmasters of the country , this step has been taken to increase operational efficiency and streamline the services. The department claims that double manpower was being used to run two similar services (registry and speed post) and this merger will improve the tracking mechanism and provide more convenience to the customers.
Meaning, there will be an impact on the pocket but on the other hand, it will be easy to pay for parcel or other services from this pocket. There is going to be a big change in the services of the post office from August, where now the facility of digital payment will be available. The postal department will implement a new IT system and application, through which payment can be made through UPI. The post office is upgrading its IT system. After this, you will be able to make payment through UPI payment in the post office as well. Meaning, give cash and you will be relieved of not having change.
