The Power Corporation has submitted a proposal to increase the rate of new connections along with an increase of about 45 percent in the electricity rates. Now the sub-committee of the Regulatory Commission is going to meet soon. The rates will be discussed in this. In such a situation, the corporation management is continuously lobbying for increasing the rates of new connections in the sub-committee meeting. Two days ago, the corporation officials also discussed this issue in the Regulatory Commission.
It is known that BPL consumers in the state get a connection for about 1032 rupees. For taking a 1 kilowatt connection, one has to deposit about 1172 rupees in rural areas and about 1570 rupees in urban areas. If the connection is done more than 40 meters away, then about five to seven thousand rupees extra have to be deposited for the pole cost.
Energy Minister enquired about the situation from the nodal officers of the complaint cell

The Energy Minister clarified that any kind of laxity in the quality of consumer service is not acceptable. While fixing departmental responsibility, continuous monitoring will be done.
