Chirag Kotwal was born to a middle Hindu class family in Bhaderwah, Jammu. He completed high schooling from local school of Jammu and later moved to Mumbai to pursue Engineering from Veermata Jijabai Technical Institute. Meanwhile, he also took music training from Ajivasan Music Academy.

Career
At the age of 6, Chirag started participating in music competition at school. After gaining some confidence, he began appearing in local shows in Jammu. In 2013, he moved to Chandigarh to perform in front of Vishal Dadlani and Shreya Ghoshal for the show Indian Idol Junior. He later received sponsorship for Indian Idol Junior from one of his show producers, Mr. Parwana. Mr. Parwana also referred him to a music guru, Pandit Hari Krishan Sharma.
In 2020, Chirag received a Golden Ticket in Indian Idol Season 12 in 2020 but was eliminated in the theatre round. He further continued to participate in Indian Idol auditions and become top 15 contestant of Indian Idol 13 in 2022.
