Central Govt Employees: The central government has released new rates for nearly 2,000 medical procedures and tests under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) for its employees, pensioners, and dependents. This revision comes after nearly 15 years and will be effective from October 13, 2025. The new rates will directly impact millions of beneficiaries treated at CGHS-empanelled and non-empanelled hospitals across the country.
New Rates for Super Specialty Hospitals
According to the new guidelines, treatment rates at super specialty hospitals will now be 15% higher than those at NABH-accredited hospitals. For example, if a treatment at an NABH-accredited hospital in a city costs ₹1 lakh, the same treatment at a super specialty hospital will now cost ₹1.15 lakh. These rates apply to hospitals that provide high-end services such as cardiology, neurosurgery, oncology, and nephrology.
What are NABH and NABL?
NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) – This organization certifies the standards of quality, safety, and ethical medical practices of hospitals.
NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories): It provides accreditation for testing, diagnostic, and lab services. Both organizations fall under the Quality Council of India (QCI).
Where will the new rates apply? – All CGHS affiliated hospitals and health organisations (HCOs).
– On medical reimbursement claims for government employees and pensioners.
– On cashless treatment (credit facility) — which will continue for CGHS pensioners and other eligible categories.
Variations in rates by city
The government has divided CGHS rates according to city classifications:
– Rates in Tier-1 cities will be considered standard.
– Rates in Tier-2 cities will be 10% lower.
– Rates in Tier-3 cities will be 20% lower.
(These rates will also apply to hospitals in the North-Eastern states, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.)
Changes by Ward Category
– New rates have been set for semi-private wards.
– Rates for general wards will be reduced by 5%.
– Rates for private wards will increase by 5%.
– Rates for consultations, radiotherapy, day care, and minor procedures will remain the same across all ward categories.
