The month of August is about to begin. Holidays are very important for people working in the stock market and those using banking services. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the official list of bank holidays for the month of August.

During this entire month, government and private banks across the country will remain closed for a total of 15 days. These holidays include national festivals like Independence Day, Ganesh Chaturthi and Janmashtami as well as cultural and religious festivals celebrated in various states. Apart from this, like every month, banks will remain closed on every Sunday and on the second and fourth Saturdays.

So if you have to do any urgent work at the bank, plan ahead keeping in mind the August holidays. Especially around festivals and weekends, when banks may remain closed for two or three days in a row.

If we talk about weekends, then in August, banks will remain closed on 3rd, 9th, 10th, 17th, 23rd, 24th and 31st. These are the days that fall under regular weekend holidays. That is, all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. Apart from this, there may be holidays in your state, the details of which are given below.

  • Banks closed in Gangtok, Sikkim on August 8
  • On August 9, there will be a bank holiday in many states like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and Jhulan Purnima.
  • Banks will remain closed on August 13 in Imphal, Manipur on Patriotic Day.
  • On August 15, there will be a holiday across India on Independence Day, along with the Parsi New Year (Shahinshahi), Janmashtami will also be celebrated in some states.
  • Banks will remain closed in Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Bihar, Telangana, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir and many other states on August 16 on the occasion of Janmashtami (Shavan Vad-8) and Krishna Jayanti.
  • There will be a holiday in Agartala, Tripura on August 19 on the birthday of Maharaja Veer Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur.
  • Banks will remain closed in Guwahati, Assam on August 25 due to the death anniversary of Sant Shrimant Shankardev.
  • Banks will remain closed on August 27 on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi in states like Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
  • There will be a holiday in Odisha and Goa on August 28, the second day of Nuakhai and Ganesh Chaturthi.

How will work be done when the bank is closed?

There is no need to panic. Most banking services have gone digital these days. Be it net banking, mobile banking, UPI payments or withdrawing money from ATMs. All these facilities are available at all times, even on holidays. Yes, some tasks like cheque clearing or processing of promissory notes, which comes under the Negotiable Instruments Act, are not possible without banks being open.

Talking about the stock market, there will be two holidays apart from the weekend. The first holiday will be on August 15, Independence Day. This day is Friday. The second holiday will be for Ganesh Chaturthi, which will fall on August 27. This day will be Wednesday.
