The Department of Posts has announced changes in the fees for sending documents via Speed Post. The Ministry of Communications stated that these new rates will come into effect today, October 1st. The Department of Posts has also added several new features, including OTP-based delivery, real-time tracking, and online booking.
Speed Post Charges Increased for Most Locations
After 12 years, the department has decided to revise Speed Post charges. While the charges have been reduced for some locations, they have been increased for most others. The ministry states that this move is timely and in keeping with rising costs and the need for modern services. Previously, the Department of Posts discontinued the Registered Post service, which has been merged with Speed Post.
These facilities have been expanded at the post office.
Online payment service: Customers can now pay for Speed Post online. This will eliminate the hassle of long lines at the counter and cash transactions. Payments will be instant, secure, and trackable. Sending a document or book weighing more than 50 grams and less than 250 grams from Delhi to Mumbai (approximately 1,400 km) will cost ₹72.
2. OTP will be required at the time of delivery: Speed Post will now feature OTP-based secure delivery. Deliveries will only be made to individuals who have verified their identity via OTP. This feature ensures the security and reliable delivery of postal items.
3. SMS delivery notifications: Customers will receive SMS notifications regarding the status of their items. Alerts will be sent at each stage of delivery, allowing customers to always check the location and delivery status of their items.
4. Online booking service will be easier: Speed Post items can now be booked online from the comfort of your home. You can use the India Post website or mobile app. This feature will save time and make sending parcels easier.
5. Real-time updates: Customers will be able to view the status of their items in real time. This feature makes tracking postal items easy and transparent. It will help in immediately detecting any delays or errors.
6. Registration facility: Customers can register themselves online for the Speed Post service. Registration will make delivery and tracking of items easier. This facility will be faster and safer for regular users.

3. ₹70 for luggage from 251 grams to 500 grams
For distances from 201 to 500 kilometers

2. ₹63 for luggage from 51 grams to 250 grams
3. ₹75 for luggage from 251 grams to 500 grams
For distances between 501 and 1000 kilometers
- ₹47 for luggage up to 50 grams
- ₹68 for luggage between 51 and 250 grams
- ₹82 for luggage between 251 and 500 grams
