The Kerala government has approved another instalment of dearness allowance (DA) for state employees and teachers and dearness relief (DR) for pensioners. Finance Minister KN Balagopal gave this information on Saturday.

Balagopal said that the revised rates will be effective from the salary and pension due on September 1. He said that this will also benefit the employees under the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and medical services. The revised payments will be applicable with the salary and pension due from September 1.

What is the detail

The increase in DA and DR is estimated to increase the state’s annual expenditure by about Rs 2,000 crore. “This reflects the government’s commitment to employees and pensioners,” Balagopal said. He said this is the second instalment sanctioned this year. He further said two instalments were given last year too and stressed that the state has honoured its pay revision commitments despite the financial stress during the Covid years.

Let us tell you that the Kerala government had released two installments last year as well. Balagopal said that the state government has fulfilled the promise of salary revision despite the financial crisis in the years during the Covid-19 pandemic and the employees and pensioners have been paid cash of DA and other benefits since the beginning of the financial year 2021-22.
