The number of National Highways and Expressways across the country is continuously increasing. However, vehicles plying on these roads have to pay tax. New roads are also being built in Bihar.

Let us tell you that generally all types of vehicles, including private passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and heavy commercial vehicles, have to pay tax to use national highways and expressways, but there are certain categories of people who get exemptions.
These people don’t have to pay toll tax.
Toll-free persons on highways and expressways across the country include the President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief Justice, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Union Ministers, Chief Ministers of States, High Court Judges, Rajya Sabha Chairman, Lok Sabha Speaker, Chairman of State Legislative Council, State Legislative Assembly Speaker, Chief Justice of High Court and other Judges, Ministers of State, Members of Parliament, Secretaries to the Government of India, Secretaries to the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha and many more.
Officers also get exemption
Not only this, Indians who have received awards from the Government of India also get exemption from toll tax. These include Param Vir Chakra winners, Ashok Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Kirti Chakra, Shaurya Chakra winners. Apart from this, some other categories of people are also given exemption from toll tax, in which officers of the Ministry of Defense go for government work, officers of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force, paramilitary forces, central and armed forces do not charge toll tax in police uniform. Ambulances and horse vehicles also get exemption from tax.
