The long-awaited update for central employees is now out. An update has come on the important points of the talks between the government and the employees on the 8th Central Pay Commission.
The central government has received several suggestions from the employee organizations on the 8th Pay Commission. The government has given a statement in response to a question asked on this subject in Parliament. Now all eyes are on what decision the government takes on the suggestions given by the employees?
The National Joint Consultant Machinery (NC-JCM) has also put forward several demands of the employees before the government. These suggestions were given in February 2025. This information was given by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in response to a question asked in Parliament.
Rajya Sabha member Bhuvneshwar Kalita had asked the government whether any suggestions have been received from the employees. In response, the minister said that the government has sought feedback from key stakeholders in this regard, including the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, Department of Personnel and State Governments. Now let us know what are the 15 key suggestions given by the staff side for the 8th Pay Commission.
Maximum number of employees should be covered.
The Commission has been asked to include industrial and non-industrial employees of the Central Government, All India Services, Defence and Paramilitary Forces, Rural Postal Workers, employees of the Supreme Court and Audit Department and autonomous bodies. The pay revision should be implemented from January 1, 2026. The new pay structure should also be considered to be implemented from January 1, 2026.
Lower level salaries should be merged.
The minimum wage should be set on the basis of a ‘living wage’. That is, a wage that can meet the needs of a family in a respectable manner. Like levels 1 and 2, 3 and 4 should be merged into one so that the wage matrix is clearer. Every employee should get at least 3 promotions in a timely manner.
Interim relief should be granted.
Till the implementation of the Commission’s report, employees and pensioners should get interim relief. There is a demand for adding dearness allowance and relief to the existing salary and pension. The unresolved problems of the 7th Pay Commission should be resolved.
Pensions should be improved.
There should be parity between old and new pension and commuted pension should be restored in 12 years. There is a demand to abolish NPS and implement old pension system (CCS rules). Old advances should be resumed and new advances should be given as per requirement.
