The Election Commission finally published the draft electoral roll for Bengal after the controversial Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise. And then Y followed. They also released a separate, massive list of over 58 lakh deleted names, forcing voters to scramble online to see if they, or their family, are still eligible to vote.
Let’s be real. This list is a political powder keg, especially with Assembly polls right around the corner. The sheer number—5.8 million deletions—is huge, and now it’s up to the voters to prove they are alive and haven’t moved.
The Breakdown: Finding Your Deleted Name
The thing is, the EC has made the deletion list available right alongside the draft rolls, booth-wise. You need to know exactly where to look to confirm your status.

The Direct Link: You can check the list of deleted names using the official Election Commission portal link:
-
The Process: You open that link, select your Assembly constituency, and then click on your polling booth. That’s the key.
-
The Data: The published list is detailed, containing the elector’s name, their EPIC number, age, gender, and, most importantly, the reason why the name was deleted. The reasons are simple: they are marked as dead, missing, or could not be contacted.
We’re even seeing deletions in high-profile areas, or nothing. Mamata Banerjee’s own Bhowanipore constituency had 128 voters struck off from one booth. Suvendu Adhikari’s Nandigram had 11 names deleted from a single booth. This shows the SIR exercise was hitting everywhere.

The Next Step: The Hearing
If your name is gone, the fight is not over, but it’s just starting.
-
Claims and Objections: The period for claims and objections runs from December 16, 2025, to mid-January 2026. You will likely need to submit Form 6 to apply for inclusion.
-
The Hearing: About a week from now, the Election Commission starts formal hearings. The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) is the one with the power here.
-
The Proof: If you are called for a hearing, you better come with documents. The EC is looking for logical discrepancy in things like name, age, or parent’s name on your enumeration form. You will need relevant proof to satisfy the ERO that you are eligible to vote.
It all boils down to the ERO’s satisfaction. This period, where over half a crore voters try to get back on the rolls, is going to be messy, time-consuming, and highly political. It’s an ongoing situation until the final list drops in February….![]()
